STRUCTURE


IAWEES Membership

Membership of the Association shall be two types, namely, individual and institutional membership as follows:
(i). Individual Membership

Individual membership shall be open to any person engaged in any the aspects of water, environment, energy and social sciences and its application or interested in the objectives of the Association and possesses or is acquiring equivalent qualifications as are specified in the By-Laws.


Individual Membership Comprises:
a). Student
b). Associate Member
c). Member
d). Fellow
e). Distinguished Member
f). Honorary Member
g). Corporate Member

The following definition applies:

Student

Applications for this grade shall be accepted from all who have an B.Sc. and/or the students in the last year of the university degree in one of the fields of specialization of the association. It should be nominated by a member of the association. Student membership could be upgraded to associate membership if the student obtain a higher degree (MSc).


Associate Member

Applications for this grade shall be accepted from all who have an MSc in a field of the association. Associate membership could be upgraded to associate membership if the students obtain a higher degree (PhD).


Member

Applications for this grade shall be accepted from all who have an PhD in a field of the association. This membership forms the main body of the association. It should be more than 50% of the total number of the all membership.


Fellow

Applications for this grade shall be invited through nominations only. The nominations may be filed by the established academics/researchers in the field, with at least two (or three) support letters from established academics or researchers. The nominated established academics, researchers, or practitioners in the field of water, environment, energy and social sciences (WEES) and approved by the President shall be the Fellow of the Association. The total number of Fellows selected in a given year may not exceed about 1% of the total number of members in WEES.


Distinguished Member

A nominated internationally well-renowned academics, researchers or practitioners in the field of water, environment, energy and social sciences (WEES) and approved by the President shall be Distinguished Member of the Association. There will be a maximum of only one Distinguished Member selected in a given year.


Honorary Member

Individual members and institutional members, as well as individuals and entities outside IAWEES, may be awarded Honorary Membership, upon the unanimous recommendation of the Executive Committee and endorsed by a two-thirds majority of the Council in a ballot in the year preceding the biennial congress. Not more than three Honorary Members from among the IAWEES membership and one from outside IAWEES may be elected in a given biennial cycle.


Corporate Member

Individual members and institutional members from the Corporate Sector dealing with any sector of water science & engineering, environmental science & engineering, energy science & engineering, social sciences and their practical applications may be considered for the Corporate Membership, upon the unanimous recommendation of the Executive Committee.


(ii). Institute Membership (individuals who are part of an Institute member are referred to as Institutional members)

Institute membership shall be open to the following types of institutions:

(i). Research laboratories and other organizations involved in research and development activities in water science & engineering, environmental science & engineering, energy science & engineering, social sciences and the application in all relevant fields in all its aspects, including policy analysis, industrial applications.

(ii). Educational institutions dealing with water science & engineering, environmental science & engineering, energy science & engineering, social sciences and their practical applications;

(iii). Organizations, institutions or companies which promote, design, execute or supervise in any activity of water, environment, energy science and engineering applications, perform management tasks, carry out surveys or industrial projects, develop, supply or apply relevant equipment, instrumentation, hardware or software.

Governance

The governance structure of IAWEES is constituted as follows:

1. Technical Divisions: Committees and Working Groups
2. Regional Divisions
3. National and Regional Chapters
4. Governing Council: Composed of Global Representation of Members
5. Secretariat: Secretary, Joint Secretary and the Treasurer and Administrative Staff

Secretariat

The Secretariat, based at the administrative headquarters in India and coordinates communication and day-to-day management of the association.
